Bench Jeweler/Goldsmith
We are seeking an experienced Bench Jeweler / Goldsmith to join our team at Specific Gravity, supporting in-house fabrication, custom design, and repair work for Specific Gravity and Brooklyn Metal Works. This role combines hands-on technical skill at the bench with repair coordination, quality control, and occasional errands in the Diamond District. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative studio environment, is flexible, self motivated, independent and adaptable in their workflow, and brings both precision and creativity to their craft.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair & Production:
- Perform advanced jewelry repairs and assembly in gold, platinum, and silver
- Execute precise soldering, ring sizing, and polishing
- Clean, assemble, and finish castings with accuracy
- Fabricate handmade components (clasps, bracelet/bangle locks, mechanical parts)
- Stone setting in all major styles (rounds, fancy shapes, colored stones, diamonds)
- Metal forming and forging with hammers, rolling mills, and draw plates
- Assist with design development and custom projects
Operations & Coordination:
- Facilitate pick-ups/drop-offs of orders and jewelry repairs with Specific Gravity
- Run Diamond District errands
- Track repair materials, assess project needs, maintain inventory, and perform quality control
- Communicate effectively with the Store Manager, Studio Manager, and owners
- Use spreadsheets to track work, keep notes and document production pieces
- Maintain a consistent schedule for drop-offs and pick-ups
- Collaboration & Development
- Work closely with CAD designers, setters, polishers ,repair people and fabricators
- Construct new prototypes and production models according to timelines
- Uphold high standards of safety, organization, and quality
- Participate in special projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- 2-5+ years professional bench jeweler experience
- Proficiency in silver and gold work
- Advanced soldering, hand fabrication, repair, and finishing skills
- Experience with laser welding and traditional torch techniques including soldering
- Knowledge of colored stones, precious metal properties, and intricate jewelry construction
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Hand engraving experience
- Proficiency with wax carving
- Degree or dedicated coursework in jewelry fabrication and technical design

COMPENSATION & AVAILABILITY
- $21–$26 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
- 15 days PTO
- 401K option
This is a full time Monday - Friday position. Candidate must be available from 10am - 6pm
