Part-Time Seasonal Sales Associate

Specific Gravity is an elevated jewelry experience for the design enthusiast and art appreciator. Our selection offers a diverse range of styles, materials, and processes made by some of the most distinctive voices in the NYC jewelry scene. Featuring one of a kind and hand wrought production pieces and objects, our shop supports the Brooklyn Metal Works studios with an emphasis on local manufacturing and responsible jewelry practices. We specialize in building relationships between our artists and clients in the creation of custom pieces for truly special occasions.

Brooklyn Metal Works is a metal art studio that offers space to rent for the development of work in the metalsmithing field, as well as offering concept based classes and gallery space to promote artists, designers and makers.

We are a team of innovative professionals bridging the gap between Brooklyn Metal Works, our community of artists, and the consumer. We aim to uplift and provide encouragement for each artist and their work, creating an approachable space for customers and providing personable assistance throughout the shopping experience.


OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

We are looking for a part time sales professional to join the team. As a Sales Associate you are responsible for creating a welcoming shopping experience that will make customers feel comfortable and valued, providing expert knowledge on the artists and their work as well as maintaining open communication with artists and management. Genuine enthusiasm, eagerness to learn and professionalism are valued. Interest in social media and visual merchandising is encouraged.

As this is a growing business, the role and responsibilities may evolve over time. We welcome constructive feedback, initiative action, leadership and decision making. We are here to encourage one another.  


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage customers in conversation to understand their needs and desires
  • Provide information on Brooklyn Metal Works and the community of artists featured in the store
  • Present merchandise and share detailed information regarding their features and the artist
  • Act as a stylist, offering advice and recommendations
  • Suggest additional merchandise to compliment customer selection
  • Reinforce customer’s selection and package merchandise with care
  • Facilitate the checkout process through Shopify POS.
  • Ensure the customer has a full understanding of the exchange policy
  • Follow-up with customer requests and inquiries in a timely manner
  • Answer phone calls in a professional manner


MAINTENANCE:

  • Store visuals, presentation, organization, storing and replenishment of stock
  • Good housekeeping standards
  • Stock of customer use and internal use supplies
  • Plant happiness. We have numerous plants in store that require daily attention and weekly watering


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be available to work both Saturday and Sunday
  • Strong customer service, sales and retail experience
  • Previous jewelry sales experience preferred
  • Knowledge of diamonds and gemstones and custom design a plus
  • Ability to identify each customer’s unique needs
  • Foresight in inventory replenishment needs
  • Experience with building and maintaining strong relationships with customers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong sense of initiative , self-motivated and goal-oriented 
  • Passion for creative thinking, jewelry and objects

This position is for a minimum of 16 hours a week equivalent to 2 days, ability to work evenings and weekends is required.

Specific Gravity hours of operation are Tuesday-Sunday, 11am - 7pm. Our Winter Holiday schedule will extend our operating days and hours.

Our pay scale ranges from $19 - $23 an hour depending on experience.
