Edgar Mosa

Chainmaking, Mosa notes, is at the center of his extensive practice as a jeweler and artist. Primarily using sterling silver, Mosa handcrafts innovative chains of uniquely-shaped links. Designs composed of hearts, stars, knots, spikes, and bag tags, tinged with the artist’s signature humor, make Mosa’s creations instantly recognizable.

Edgar Mosa, born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, started his career as a goldsmith’s apprentice at the age of 14. Mosa then pursued a Bachelor of Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and a Masters of Fine Art at the Cranbrook Academy of Art (Bloomfield Hills, MI). In recognition of his craftsmanship and artistry, Mosa received a full scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and has exhibited across the globe, including solo shows in Lisbon, Copenhagen and New York. Notably, in 2022, Mosa and his life partner, Joe McShea, were commissioned to create a large-scale installation for Loewe’s fall 2022 menswear show in Paris. The artist’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Frieze, and Gayletter Magazine.

Mosa joined Brooklyn Metal Works in 2010 as course instructor and resident artist, and continues to produce jewelry in the BKMW studio.
