“I see jewelry as more than adornment—it’s a personal talisman, a quiet statement of individuality and strength.”
Daggers, evil eyes, studs, and locks: artist Futaba Hayashi is drawn to timeless symbols imbued with a punk spirit. Engraving and colorful gemstones add to the power of each piece. Merging her love for graphic design with the intimacy of jewelry, Hayashi creates rebellious yet subtle pieces that become an everyday amulet for the wearer.
Born and raised in Japan, Hayashi inherited the minimalist aesthetic and reverence for symbology found in Japanese culture. Hayashi studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC), working as an art director and designer before shifting to metalsmithing through classes at Brooklyn Metal Works. Drawn to traditional techniques like wax carving and hand engraving, Hayashi also embraces technology in her jewelry practice. Hayashi is based in NYC.
