Kate Cusack

Kate Cusack celebrates the beauty of utilitarian materials by transforming metal zippers into museum-worthy pieces of jewelry. As a born and raised New Yorker, Cusack’s inspiration lies in the intersection of costume design and found objects. Cusack continues to challenge the possibilities of jewelry design by centering the zipper in her work, playing with the visual tension between fluid form and negative space.

Kate Cusack earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she began to explore the possibilities of wearable sculpture. After developing her sculptural foundation, she earned her Masters of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama, where she focused on costume design. Her passion for working with zippers began in 2002 and she has loved the medium ever since. She is based in Queens, NY.
