Kate Taylor Design
Kate Taylor’s design practice is informed by her passion for both ancient and modern forms found throughout the history of art. Drawing from a rich tradition of geometric and organic motifs, Taylor’s pieces are made to be extremely wearable while maintaining unique qualities. A passion for sourcing stones and hand-carving wax models imbues her jewelry with a focused intention.
Kate Taylor’s jewelry practice began as early as her teenage years, experimenting with silver jewelry while still in high school. While studying Theater and Art History at NYU, Taylor took jewelry making classes in her spare time. After graduating from NYU, she earned a degree in jewelry design from FIT. Through her studies, she became a member of the Brooklyn Metal Works community.
Taylor found a passion for lapidary work while searching for ways to incorporate durable colorful elements into her designs. By prioritizing stones with interesting colors and textures, Taylor developed a style of jewelry that resembles abstract paintings. Kate Taylor continues to work from her bench at Brooklyn Metal Works.
